Russian Nights in Cyprus-2001 and a charitable action "Let's build a new Church together!"
THE STATE ACADEMIC FOLK DANCE COMPANY UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF IGOR MOISEYEV gave a brilliant performance in the framework of the charitable action "Let's build a new Church together!" All gatherings proceeded from the action were donated to the construction fund of the Russian Orthodox Church in Cyprus.
In 1999 KOLIZEY production center for the first time presented in Cyprus the project "Russian Nights in Cyprus", on the occasion of the 40-th anniversary of the established diplomatic relationship between Russia and the Republic of Cyprus. In 2001 "Russian Nights in Cyprus" were held for the second time with central event - performance by the Folk Dance Ensemble number 1 in Russia under the leadership of Igor Moiseev. The performance was given in the frames of the charitable action, all gatherings proceeded from it were transferred to the construction fund of the Russian Orthodox Church in Cyprus. The tours of the world renowned ensemble took place from 15 to 22 September 2001. In all there were 3 performances, 2 of them by request of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Cyprus were included into the program of the annual International Art Festival "KYPRIA", and the concert on September 20 held in "Pattichion" amphitheatre was charitable.
Performance of the Igor Moiseev's Ensemble that won affection of the public throughout the world became the keystone of success of the charitable action, the significance of it running far beyond a mere cultural event.
A charitable goal of the organizers of the forthcoming action «Let's Build a New Church Together!» - "Kolizey" production enter, Moscow City Government and Larnaca Municipality with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexiy II - was to draw attention of the wide world publicity to the construction of a Russian Orthodox Church in Cyprus, where thousands of our fellowmen live. The organizers hoped that establishment of a regional center of Russian Orthodox Church in Cyprus not only solved a question of spiritual arrangement of thousands of Orthodox Russians, living in Cyprus, but lifted Russian-Cypriot relations on a new cultural and diplomatic level as well.
By 2001 the history of Russian-Cyprian relations had been tested for already 895 years. For almost nine centuries side by side Russia and Cyprus, from the blessing of God have kept in their Orthodox hearts a spark of a True Trust, a spark of brotherly Love and Christian law.
As honorary guests "Russian Nights in Cyprus" - 2001 visited political executives of the Cyprus Republic, prominent political and public figures of Cyprus. Among the participants that brought their warm salutation to the artists and witnesses pf the action were minister of the Foregn Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. I. Ivanov and I. Kasoulides, mayors of Moscow and Larnaca, Yury Luzhkov and G.Licourgos and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Alexiy II.
