Moscow Days in Cyprus – 2002

A series of charity gala concerts given in Cyprus by the leading Opera and Ballet soloists of the world-famous State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow.
From the 29th of May till the 2nd of June, the cultural and political event «Moscow Days – 2002» took place in Nicosia with the support of the Moscow City Government. It was a way of familiarizing the residents of Cyprus with the cultural wealth of Russia. Official meetings, a number of concerts of major Russian folk performers, an exhibition of the best works by Moscow artists and a variety of other cultural events took place during this period.
The two concerts featuring world famous ballet and opera soloists of the internationally known Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow were the highlight of the events. The concerts covered a programme of much loved excerpts from ballet and opera. Ballet lovers had a wonderful opportunity to enjoy selections from ‘The Nutcracker', "Dreams about Japan", the moving pas de deux from ‘La Fille mal Gardee' and ‘Don Quixote'. At the same time, opera and serious music lovers enjoyed among others the habanera and segildia from ‘Carmen', the Aria of Melnik from the opera "Russalka" ("Mermaid") and the arias by Leonora and Rudolph from the operas ‘La Forza del Destino' and ‘La Boheme' respectively, all performed by top dancers and opera singers.
