KVN in Cyprus – 2005. The Cup of Aphrodite
Оn May 7, 2005 in the city of Larnaca in "Pattixio" amphitheatre for the 5th time already a regular event – performances of the popular Russian TV program KVN took place called "KVN in Cyprus – 2005. Aphrodite Cup" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the frames of the long-termed intergovernmental cultural initiative.
That jubilee year in the Russian history for the traditional KVN Aphrodite CUP competed the team "Utomljennie solntsem" (Sochi) ("Minor KiViN" – Yurmala 2000, "KiViN in black" – Yurmala 2001 and two-time Finalists of the Major League - 2000, 2001, Honored Champion of KVN Major League – 2003) and the picked team of Perm "PARMA" (Finalists of Major League 2004, 2005).
1999 became the launching year of the first KVN tour performances in Cyprus, a spectacular event which was a tremendous success with the audience. Since then, KVN Games in Cyprus have been a most welcome guest, become a joyful tradition and are doomed to success from now on every May Holidays in Russia. The tour Games of the renowned KVN held every year in Cyprus have formed among Russian and CIS tourists a stead fast opinion and appreciation of the Island as a first-rate resort: with both nature and social life bubbling over and enchanting thousands of Russian, CIS and foreign tourists. Every year about 2 000 Russian tourists come to the Island to witness that gorgeous occasion "KVN in Cyprus. Aphrodite Cup." The high popularity of the event enable the organizers to prepare special V.I.P. tour packages "To Cyprus with KVN" distributed in Russia that will include accommodation in Hotel during the national May holidays.
Therefore it came as no surprise when the 2005 years' KVN Games gloried in a real celebrity for many tourists from Russia, Greece, Israel and other countries who came to Cyprus with a single aim: to witness that gorgeous occasion. KVN performances enable thousands of the Russian tourists combine quiet and comfortable rest on exotic Mediterranean coast with visiting of the celebrated and beloved performance of the KVN games, when many Russians often lack the opportunity to watch live show in their motherland because of its extreme popularity and almost unattainable tickets to the performance.
For the last 5 years over 7 000 KVN - lovers came to visit KVN shows organized in Cyrus. In 2002 - 2003 the tour KVN Games in Cyprus were held under the name of Aphrodite Cup, paying tribute to hospitality and rich history of the Island. Traditionally one of the major themes of the games is ancient history of the beautiful island, its culture and national colouring.
The 2005 years' Games were solemnly opened by the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreos Moiseos. The event honored representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Cyprus and Moscow City Government, famous Russian politicians, businessmen, outstanding art figures.
In the festive days of the Great Victory Jubilee as honored guests the group of the Great Patriotic War veterans was invited to Cyprus where they rejoiced visiting the most remarkable sights of the island and took part in the celebratory concert of the KVN games. Sparkling humor of the talented KVN performers became a good present to the Victory Anniversary and to hundreds of our compatriots in Cyprus and thousands of Russian tourists.
